With rising fuel prices, the opposition is launching sharp criticism against the federal government. Ines Schwerdtner, the leader of the Left party, told the “Bild” (Tuesday edition) that looking at gas prices over recent weeks gives the impression that the federal government is composed of total failures. She argued that the confusion among proposed solutions shows that “the country is governed in a state of unplanned chaos”. According to her, while the SPD and the Union remain divided over how to alleviate the burden on the population, “the oil corporations continue to profit”. Andreas Audretsch, the deputy leader of the Green party’s faction in the Bundestag, expressed fears of “price shocks concerning food and heating” and called upon the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs to act decisively. Speaking to the “Bild” Audretsch stated that “Katherina Reiche should now present a clear crisis action plan and end the coalition chaos” adding that “this is a fatal crisis management, even from the Chancellor”.
