Greens’ Ricarda Lang Keeps Door Open for Future Top Leadership Role

Ricarda Lang, the former federal chairwoman of Alliance 90/The Greens, has stated that she remains open to returning to a top leadership role within her party in the future. Speaking to the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” (noz), she mentioned, “I can definitely imagine it-but only when I have a necessary feeling of stability, the security that I won’t lose myself again. Whether or when that moment comes: time will tell”.

The 32-year-old Member of the Bundestag stepped down as party chairwoman in November 2024 following criticism of the Green party’s direction. Adding to her comments to noz, she noted that she “still has many visions” and is “not finished” with politics. However, she clarified that she never harbored any ambition of becoming the Federal Chancellor, stating, “I am very happy with where I am right now”.

Lang expressed that discussing top personnel years before elections is an issue within Berlin’s political scene. She characterized the period after her resignation as a “form of liberation” from the internal walls and expectation that came with being the party leader, firmly dismissing the notion that she had already passed her peak public moment.
