Trump Halts Iran Strikes in Exchange for Hormuz Access, Signals Near Peace Deal

Donald Trump stated that he is prepared for a ceasefire with Iran, and that the threatened large-scale attack has seemingly been postponed for now. On Tuesday evening (US East Coast time), Trump wrote on his platform “Truth Social” that he is willing to halt bombings and attacks on Iran for two weeks, provided the Islamic Republic agrees to the “complete, immediate, and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz”. The US President added that this would be a mutual ceasefire.

Apparently, Pakistan mediated the ceasefire talks. Trump reported that he held discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Chief of Army Staff, Asim Munir, who reportedly asked him to refrain from “the destruction force planned for tonight against Iran”.

Furthermore, the US President asserted that “all military objectives have already been achieved and exceeded”. Regarding negotiations for a final agreement on long-term peace with Iran and in the Middle East, he claimed that significant progress has been made. “We received a ten-point proposal from Iran and are convinced that it offers a viable basis for negotiation” Trump stated.

According to Trump, nearly all past points of contention between the United States and Iran have been resolved, and the two-week period would now allow for “the finalization and implementation of the agreement”. He emphasized that in this role, he is acting not only as the US President but also “as a representative of the Middle Eastern countries” suggesting that this “long-standing problem” is now “close to a solution”.
