East Germany Criticizes Threat to National Funding Exchange Amid Political Dispute

Elisabeth Kaiser, the Federal Government Commissioner for the East (SPD), has strongly criticized threats regarding potential payment halts from the inter-state financial equalization system should the AfD come into government. According to a spokesperson for the Commissioner, “The federal and state governments jointly passed the Financial Equalization Act,” Kaiser stated. She emphasized that the services provided through this equalization system are established by law within that framework, asserting that such proposals do not contribute to a productive discussion at this time. This comes after Danyal Bayaz, the Finance Minister of Baden-Württemberg (Greens), recently proposed reviewing financial restrictions if the AfD were found to violate the principles of the rule of law in Saxony-Anhalt.
