In January 2026, the service sector in Germany saw its sales reach 1.7 percent in real terms and 1.9 percent in nominal terms, marking an increase compared to December 2025. According to preliminary figures released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Wednesday, sales increased by 1.6 percent in real terms and 3.2 percent in nominal terms compared to the same month in the previous year, January 2025.
The Information and Communication sector experienced the largest real increase in sales compared to the previous month, rising by 3.6 percent. This was followed by the Transport and Storage sector, which saw a 2.4 percent increase. Furthermore, sales rose by 1.6 percent in other economic services (such as the rental of movable goods and the placement of workers) and by 1.3 percent in the real estate and housing sector. The growth in freelance, scientific, and technical services was more modest, increasing by only 0.7 percent.
