A planned reduction in gasoline prices of 17 cents, put forward by the coalition, will be implemented even if prices fall unexpectedly at gas stations by that time due to a changed international situation. According to Steffen Bilger, the CDU’s parliamentary affairs director, the “Rheinische Post” (Wednesday edition) reported that if prices drop unexpectedly and rapidly, the relief measure will still proceed. The CDU politician added that, given that consumers have already suffered significantly from the high costs at the pump over recent weeks, the reduction is also intended to compensate for the difficulties experienced. Bilger confirmed that the flat reduction will definitely be implemented for a two-month period. The leaderships of the CDU, CSU, and SPD had agreed to lower the taxes on diesel and gasoline by approximately 17 cents gross per liter for two months in response to price surges following the Iran conflict. Legislation to make this happen is scheduled to be initiated in the Bundestag within this week.
