Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) is pushing to swiftly release the 90-billion-euro loan package for Ukraine. Speaking on Tuesday during a meeting with his European Union colleagues in Luxembourg, the CDU politician described the recent elections in Hungary as a “real sigh of relief”. He expressed a notable sense of hope for Ukraine. Wadephul stated that Germany also expects Budapest to interpret the election results as a mandate: the people of Hungary want a unified Europe and stand in solidarity with Ukraine, which is defending not only its own safety but also Europe’s freedom. The minister stressed that the unusual blockades against much-needed support for Ukraine must be lifted as quickly as possible. He argued that the release of the 90-billion-euro credit is necessary very soon, and should not wait until after any change in government. Furthermore, Wadephul called on all member states of the European Union to significantly increase their bilateral support for Ukraine.
