Lindholz Calls for Ban on Signal, Urges Switch to European Messenger Wire for Political Communications

Following a suspected hacking attack against the communications of high-profile politicians, Andrea Lindholz, the Deputy President of the Bundestag and a member of the CDU, has urged the federal government and the Bundestag to immediately discontinue using the US-based messenger service Signal. Speaking to the newspaper Bild’s Monday edition, Lindholz recommended that all members of parliament and administrative staff transition fully to the European messenger service, Wire. According to Lindholz, Wire offers superior security because it does not reveal telephone numbers or display email addresses, and its overall security level is “significantly higher”.

She further called for an effective ban on Signal usage. “We should consider a ban on Signal on official devices used by members of parliament and Bundestag employees” she stated. Lindholz maintained that using Wire protects not only the individual user but also their contacts. As she pointed out, the Bundestag already makes the platform available for official duties, and the CDU politician stressed that everyone must actually start using it.
