The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Wednesday that it has arrested Kazakh citizen Sergey K. on suspicion of engaging in intelligence agent activity. The legal proceedings began after an arrest warrant was issued on April 23 by the investigating judge of the Federal Court of Justice.
According to the charges, K. allegedly maintained contact with a Russian intelligence service since May 2025. He is accused of passing sensitive information regarding Germany’s military support for Ukraine and details about the German armaments and defense industry. Specifically, the information allegedly included details about companies developing drones and robots. Furthermore, he reportedly transmitted photos of public buildings in Berlin, as well as images of military convoys on autobahns, including one involving a NATO state.
Beyond these security concerns, K. is also accused of identifying suitable sabotage locations in Germany for his contact within the intelligence network and offering to recruit additional individuals for a spy and sabotage group. He was scheduled to appear before the investigating judge of the Federal Court of Justice again on Wednesday, who will rule on the continuation of his pre-trial detention.
