Manchester City Confirms Pep Guardiola’s Departure After Decade of Dominance

Manchester City has confirmed that Pep Guardiola will end his tenure as the team’s manager this summer. The Catalan coach, who has been with the English top club since July 2016, is widely regarded as the most successful manager in the club’s history, having secured 20 major trophies during his decade in charge. Despite his departure, Guardiola will remain associated with the City Football Group as a “Global Ambassador”.

Guardiola did not cite any specific reason for his decision, noting instead that he feels “it is time”. He emphasized the importance of the city of Manchester and the support he received during his time there. He specifically recognized the strength of the community that emerged following the Manchester Arena attack, as well as the support he found after the loss of his mother during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Chairman of Manchester City, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, stated that “honesty and trust” formed the foundation of their collaboration with Guardiola. Al Mubarak praised his “unique approach” noting that it has not only made the club more successful but has also improved football as a whole.
