CDU foreign policy expert Jürgen Hardt accused Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin of having completely lost all human standards during the war in Ukraine. Hardt told the “Rheinische Post”, stating that “Putin’s state terrorism breaks every civilizational standard”. The foreign policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group argued that the hypersonic missile attack on civilians demonstrates to the world that this is not merely a conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He also urged the Global South to seriously consider whether they are doing enough to counter this “breakdown of civilization” which deliberately targets the most vulnerable. Hardt pointed to the Congolese President’s visit to Moscow at the end of April as an example of how many are oversimplifying the situation.
