In recent voter polls conducted by Forsa, the AfD has gained one percentage point compared to the previous week, maintaining a clear lead over the Union. In the weekly survey for the broadcasters RTL and ntv, the AfD reached 27 percent. The party demonstrates particularly high support among specific demographics, including workers (48 percent), the self-employed (41 percent), and men (35 percent).
The Union remains significantly behind, standing at 22 percent. In contrast, the Greens managed to increase their share by one point, now holding 15 percent. All other parties retained their previous ratings: the SPD is at 12 percent, the Left Party is at 11 percent, the FDP stands at 4 percent, and the BSW is at 3 percent.
Regarding perceived political competence, the AfD is currently ahead with 13 percent, despite losing points, while the Union is close behind with 12 percent, showing a one-point decline. Among the options, the Greens are trusted by 8 percent, the SPD by 5 percent, and the Left Party by 4 percent as the party best equipped to handle the country’s issues. Nevertheless, a majority of 55 percent has expressed distrust in any of the parties’ ability to resolve the current problems.
The approval figures for Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) have also remained largely unchanged over the past three weeks. Only 14 percent of the German public is satisfied with his performance, while 84 percent expressed dissatisfaction, marking a one-point drop.
The survey data was collected from 2,002 people between May 19 and May 22.
