The initiative “Taktisch Wählen” (Tactically Voting) has already recommended more than 100,000 votes to users campaigning for the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt. The initiative’s spokesperson, Ole Horn of Funke-Mediengruppe, stated that the website has been accessed over 250,000 times, resulting in over 100,000 recommendation requests through the tool. Through this effort, the initiative has reached nearly six percent of Saxony-Anhalt’s 1.7 million eligible voters.
The core function of the initiative is to offer a voting recommendation-either for the Greens or the SPD-depending on the specific electoral district. The stated goal is twofold: to help these parties secure the necessary five-percent threshold in the state election set for September 6th, and to prevent the AfD from gaining an overwhelming majority.
Horn noted the positive sentiment driving the campaign, adding that he receives “numerous positive feedback, both at residents’ doorsteps and via email, indicating that a majority of people in Saxony-Anhalt want a democratic majority in the state parliament, a fact we repeatedly observe in our work.”
However, the campaign has proven controversial among the political parties in Saxony-Anhalt. While the Greens have welcomed the initiative entirely, other parties, including the FDP and the AfD, have criticized the influence it exerts over the voting process.
