US Launches Defensive Strikes Against Iran Targets Amid Tensions and Stalled Peace Talks

The United States has once again conducted strikes targeting locations in Iran, according to reports by CBS News citing government officials. These recent operations were described as being of a “defensive nature”. During the attacks, four Iranian drones were shot down, and a control station in the port city of Bandar Abbas was hit. This control station was allegedly moments away from launching a fifth drone.

The government official stressed that the existing ceasefire between the US and Iran remains intact. He emphasized that these measures were “moderate, purely defensive, and served to maintain the ceasefire”. These actions followed a round of earlier “self-defense strikes” confirmed by US Central Command just two days prior. That earlier round targeted missile launch sites and Iranian boats in southern Iran that were reportedly laying mines.

Iran condemned those previous attacks, calling them a “serious violation of the ceasefire”. In response to the new nightly US strikes, Iranian state television reported attacks on a US base, though no further details were provided initially.

These military confrontations are occurring while US President Donald Trump is simultaneously pressuring Iran to enter a long-term agreement with the United States, threatening to resume a large-scale bombing campaign if they fail to do so. While the President had expressed optimism over the weekend, stating that a peace deal was “largely negotiated” his confidence appeared diminished by Wednesday. During a cabinet meeting, Trump stated that the United States was “not satisfied”.
