Bundestag MP Demands Cheaper DFB Jerseys Ahead of World Cup Kick-Off

Two weeks before the start of the World Cup, Aydan Özoğuz (SPD), the chairwoman of the Sports Committee in the Bundestag, is calling for lower prices for the DFB national team jersey.

Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, she stated that she would like the pricing structure to be more family and fan-friendly. She argued that the current price point makes it difficult for football fans to express their support for the national team simply by wearing the DFB kit. Özoğuz observed that while many parties-including the manufacturer, retailers, and the DFB as the licensor-profit from the current marketing structure, these profits come at too high a cost to the consumer.

The current adult jersey costs a minimum of 100 Euros, while children’s versions are priced around 75 Euros. These prices have notably increased in recent years. Özoğuz warned that it would be a shame if the expensive kits ended up being expensive, unsold stock instead of helping to make Germany look vibrantly colorful throughout the tournament.
