AfD Politician Defends Kremlin Ties, Counters Security Risk Accusations With Government Criticism

AfD foreign policy spokesperson Markus Frohnmaier has defended his recent trip to Russia and his meetings in the Kremlin vicinity. Speaking to RTL and ntv, he stated that the journey was coordinated with the party leadership, confirming that all internal procedures were followed during the application and approval process for the trip.

Frohnmaier clarified that his job as a spokesperson for foreign policy is to maintain dialogue with all relevant parties, whether they are Americans, Chinese, or Russians.

He strongly rejected the allegation that his contacts in Russia pose a security risk to Germany. Countering the notion that his engagement with the Kremlin creates a “significant intelligence gathering and influence risk” for Russia, Frohnmaier launched a counterattack against the governing administration. “The current German government is a security risk for Germany,” he asserted.

He dismissed the official warnings as mere political assessments. According to Frohnmaier, these warnings are issued by political figures appointed by the respective government, whose statements he considers little worthy of serious consideration.
