Investigators believe the fire at the “Reutlingen-West” substation, which occurred on the night leading into Monday, was likely caused by arson.
The State Protection Center at the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Stuttgart and the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office announced on Tuesday that, according to current findings, one or more unknown individuals gained entry to the site on Markwiesenstraße. They subsequently set fires at several points, allegedly utilizing incendiary materials.
The investigation is being managed by the State Security and Antiterrorism Center Baden-Württemberg (SAT BW) at the State Criminal Police Office. Since the crime may be linked to extremist motives, the case has been assigned to the State Protection Center of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Stuttgart.
The authorities are now appealing to the public for assistance. They are asking anyone who observed suspicious people or vehicles near the substation, the Reutlingen-Betzingen industrial area (“Mark West”), or the adjoining forest during the night between Sunday and Monday to come forward.
