According to a poll conducted by Forsa for RTL and ntv, a majority of respondents favor banning social media platforms for children and adolescents under the age of 16. Specifically, 57 percent of those surveyed believe that access to platforms such as TikTok or Instagram should be prohibited for minors under 16. In contrast, 42 percent of respondents stated they oppose a ban, maintaining that use of these platforms remains acceptable for this age group.
This support for a ban is particularly pronounced among older demographics. While only nearly half of those aged 18 to 29 (49 percent) support the prohibition, 63 percent of people over the age of 60 agree with the measure. Additionally, women are generally more inclined to support a ban than men, with 60 percent of women favoring the restriction compared to 53 percent of men.
Regarding the specific age threshold of 16, approval for a ban has shown a slight increase compared to last year. In the summer of 2025, 54 percent of participants supported the ban, an increase to the current figure of 57 percent.
