The Berlin Regional Court has sentenced a palliative doctor to the maximum penalty for murder in over a dozen cases. As demanded by the prosecution, he received a sentence of life imprisonment, a finding of aggravated guilt, subsequent protective custody, and a lifetime ban from his profession.
The 41-year-old man was accused of murdering patients in 15 separate incidents, driven by malice and other low motives. Between September 2021 and July 2024, he allegedly administered a sedative and then a muscle relaxant to patients under his care at a nursing service facility, all done without medical justification, the patient’s knowledge, or consent.
The muscle relaxant reportedly caused paralysis of the respiratory muscles, leading to respiratory arrest and death within minutes. Furthermore, he is accused of setting fires multiple times to conceal evidence.
