Digital Minister Plans Practical Implementation of Medical Certificate Obligation, Addressing Practitioner Concerns

Federal Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger (CDU) stated that he plans to address the criticisms raised by doctor’s offices regarding the implementation of the attestation requirement, while also expanding the use of digital capabilities. Appearing on the RTL and ntv program “Frühstart” on Wednesday, Wildberger confirmed that while the fundamental decision has been made, the focus now shifts entirely to putting it into practice. He stressed the importance of hearing feedback and criticisms from medical practices to ensure that implementation remains manageable and feasible.

Wildberger noted that the regulation in question was already in place before the COVID-19 pandemic. This means that the process involves returning, in part, to prior practices. However, he emphasized that fundamental digital transformation must occur throughout the entire health sector. “We must introduce relief measures. This applies to doctor’s offices; of course, it also applies to hospitals,” Wildberger said.

Regarding specific concerns about video consultation providers, the Minister assured the public that their feedback would be incorporated into the execution phase. “Naturally, this should be implemented so that it functions well in practice,” he concluded.
