The cost of visiting swimming pools in Germany has recently become significantly higher. According to data released by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Tuesday, the price of visiting a swimming pool rose by 3.6 percent in June 2026 compared to the year before. For context, the overall consumer prices increased by only 2.3 percent during the same period.
While the entrance ticket to an outdoor or indoor pool accounts for a portion of the cost, patrons also need equipment for a full day at the pool. Contrary to the rising ticket prices, some consumer goods saw price decreases compared to the previous month. For example, sun umbrellas cost 0.7 percent less recently than they did in June 2025. Furthermore, sports or swimming apparel for women was 1.1 percent cheaper in June 2026 than it was a year earlier, while men’s sportswear or swimwear saw a 1.7 percent reduction in price.
Accessibility to outdoor swimming spots varies greatly across Germany. Data from the 2024 Deutschlandatlas shows that the closest natural or outdoor pool is reachable by car in an average of ten minutes. However, in certain rural areas, people must account for travel times exceeding 20 minutes. This includes sparsely populated regions in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg, parts of northern Saxony-Anhalt, and sections of Rhineland-Palatinate. Overall, the German Society for Bathing states that Germany boasts approximately 2,800 outdoor pool facilities and nearly 600 natural bathing spots.
