The Alternative for Germany (AfD) is claiming the top spot in the party rankings, according to a poll measuring voter preference by Forsa. The weekly survey conducted for the broadcasters RTL and ntv shows the AfD at 26 percent, maintaining a clear lead over the Union, which stands at 22 percent.
For the other parties, the standings remain unchanged from the previous week: the Greens hold 16 percent, the Social Democrats (SPD) and the Left Party each account for 12 percent, and the Free Democratic Party (FDP) is at 4 percent. The proportion of non-voters and undecided individuals is still relatively high at 27 percent, significantly above the 17.9 percent recorded in the last federal election.
When addressing political competence, the AfD performs identically to the Union. Twelve percent of respondents attribute the most potential to the Union (a drop of one percentage point) and the AfD (a gain of one percentage point) to solve the country’s problems. Seven percent see the Greens as capable, while the SPD and Left each received 6 percent. However, a substantial 55 percent of respondents expressed distrust, believing that no party can best cope with the issues in Germany.
Regarding Friedrich Merz (CDU), the approval rating for the Federal Chancellor remains at its lowest level. Unchanged, only 14 percent of the German public are satisfied with his work, while the overwhelming majority, 85 percent, view him critically.
