Stefan Evers, the CDU candidate for the Berlin House of Representatives election, has criticized the Berlin Left (Die Linke) for what he calls “denial of reality” in how they handle the attack on the CSD in Neukölln. Speaking to the news channel “Welt,” he stated that he has long warned that the Left poses a danger in many areas of Berlin. Evers argues that this refusal to face the reality of political Islam and Islamism is fundamental to the party’s problems. He further claims that the Left increasingly tolerates hatred against Jews and police officers within its ranks, and therefore, he does not want the party in government.
Evers insists that the Left still fails to acknowledge Islamism as a problem. He believes the issues have not been understood and that the party lacks the courage to name them clearly. He asserts that this city is facing a growing issue with political Islam and Islamism, characterized by increasing readiness for violence. He emphasizes that unless the problem is openly named, it cannot be solved.
According to Evers, addressing Islamism must be done at its root. He contends that the issue begins long before an act of violence-it starts in families, in places where hatred is preached, and that is where intervention is needed.
In response, the Neukölln branch of the Left had previously stated that the “targeted dissemination of queer- and transphobic ideology by right-wing and conservative actors creates the ground for attacks like the one yesterday.”
