Sven Schulze, the Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt and a member of the CDU, is advocating for the stripping of German citizenship from individuals identified as Islamist threats who hold dual citizenship.
Speaking at an event hosted by the RND in Magdeburg on Monday, Schulze emphasized the importance of discussing dual citizenship among individuals designated as security risks. He expressed his desire for a policy change, stating that people residing in Germany as identified threats should not maintain both their German and their home country’s citizenship. He argued that if the federal government in Berlin fails to properly regulate these issues, the responsibility must fall to the individual states. He indicated that this topic would be addressed either during the Minister-Presidents’ Conference or during the year Saxony-Anhalt holds the chair.
Schulze also referenced the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas Market in December 2024. In that incident, Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, who originated from Saudi Arabia, killed six people and injured over 300 others. “This affects us greatly. We experienced this attack in Magdeburg,” he said. Furthermore, he brought up the case of Abdul B., the attacker in the Berlin CSD incident, who was born in Germany in 2005 to a Lebanese mother and possessed German citizenship.
