The situation regarding the forest fire near the High Wall (Hochwand), close to the Lackenberg Wall, stabilized overnight into Friday. The Traunstein District Fire Department reported on Friday that no significant expansion of the fire was observed, although the emergency status remains in effect.
Firefighters maintained intensive firefighting efforts, both by air and on the ground, until nightfall on Thursday. Once darkness set in, the aerial operations were systematically suspended, and the number of personnel deployed in the fire zone was significantly reduced.
During the night, isolated embers and small fire patches occurred. These were detected and immediately extinguished by the deployed fire crews, preventing a larger flare-up. One firefighter sustained an injury.
Approximately 300 operational personnel are expected to be involved in the firefighting efforts today. Since the early hours, aerial support has included three helicopters from Austria and two helicopters from the Bavarian Police.
Incident Commander Christof Grundner stated, “The development during the night is pleasing. However, the situation remains challenging. Our goal today is to further stabilize the situation and consistently extinguish any remaining hotspots.”
Currently, there is no danger to the general public. Residents may, however, still experience odor nuisance from smoke. The federal road B 305 remains closed to general traffic until further notice.
The public is strongly urged to continue avoiding the operational area, follow the instructions of the emergency services, and keep access routes clear for rescue teams. The entry and traffic bans mandated by the official decree for the Lackenberg Wall area and the area around Wössener See remain in force.
