Özdemir Advocates for Female Leadership at German Federal Presidency

Cem Özdemir, the Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg, expressed support for a woman to succeed Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Speaking to the newspapers of the Funke Media Group (Thursday editions), Özdemir stated, “After twelve men have held the office of Federal President, I would consider it a strong and important signal if Germany were to have a female Federal President for the first time.”

Özdemir further commented that Germany has many exceptional women who possess the experience, authority, and unifying strength needed for this role. He stressed that during times when society is under significant pressure, it is crucial that the head of state is a personality who champions liberal democracy, unites people, and commands trust and respect across party lines.

“If we can secure a convincing woman for this role, it would, in my view, be a very positive signal,” the Minister-President added.
