The FDP has expressed openness regarding future collaborations with the Free Voters ahead of the upcoming federal elections. According to FDP Secretary General Martin Hagen, the Free Voters’ participation in the 2025 federal election was missed, and he noted that if they had chosen to support the FDP instead of running their own campaign, there would currently be a liberal force in the parliament.
Hagen stressed that politicians should consider how to consolidate various political forces going forward. He lamented that it should not be the permanent situation where most voters desire conservative reason while repeatedly receiving left-wing ideology. The FDP politician also stated that Fabian Mehring, the Digital Minister for Bavaria (Free Voters), was correct in identifying the fragmentation of the conservative spectrum as a significant problem.
Mehring had previously advocated for a federal alliance with the liberals, following a model set by the CDU and CSU. He mentioned that while the Free Voters are the second strongest political force in Bavaria, they could contribute their strength locally, allowing the FDP to build its structure across the rest of the republic. Mehring confirmed that his party is open to and agreeable to this proposed cooperation.
