Berlin Justice Senator Orders Independent Review of Plagiarism Allegations Against Doctoral Dissertation

Berlin Justice Senator Felor Badenberg (CDU) is having allegations of plagiarism against her investigated. According to the “Tagesspiegel,” the accusations stem from a report prepared by the communications scientist Stefan Weber, who is known as a “plagiarism hunter.” This expert had previously demonstrated more than 80 instances of plagiarism in Badenberg’s doctoral thesis, including within the acknowledgments dedicated to her parents. Multiple media outlets reported on Wednesday evening, referencing Weber’s findings. Badenberg told the “Tagesspiegel” that the dissertation was completed “to the best of her knowledge and conscience.” She has requested that the University of Cologne conduct an independent and comprehensive review of her thesis. The formal process will examine the academic validity of the individual findings cited in the allegations.
