According to preliminary figures released by Destatis, Germany’s hospitality sector saw its turnover decrease in June 2026 when comparing it to May 2026, both in real terms (adjusted for calendar and season) by 1.2 percent and in nominal terms by 0.9 percent. Looking year-over-year, compared to June 2025, turnover fell by 5.1 percent in real terms, although it increased by 2.3 percent nominally.
Earlier in the year, May 2026 registered a real decline of 0.2 percent compared to April 2026 (the preliminary figure was -2.0 percent), and a nominal increase of 0.1 percent (the preliminary figure was -2.1 percent). Reviewing the first half of 2026, the entire hospitality sector generated 5.2 percent less turnover in real terms and 2.1 percent more in nominal terms compared to the corresponding period last year.
When analyzing the sub-sectors, Hotels and other accommodation companies posted a turnover decrease of 1.0 percent in both real and nominal terms when comparing June 2026 to May 2026. Against June 2025, this segment saw a real drop of 4.9 percent, while its nominal turnover climbed by 1.1 percent. Over the first half of 2026, these accommodation businesses achieved 3.2 percent less real revenue and 2.0 percent more nominal revenue compared to the prior year.
In the food service (gastronomy) sector, turnover fell by 1.2 percent in real terms and 0.9 percent in nominal terms during June 2026, relative to May 2026. Year-over-year, the gastronomy sector experienced a real decline of 5.1 percent, balanced by an increase of 2.6 percent in nominal revenue. Furthermore, for the entire first half of 2026, the gastronomy sector’s sales were 5.7 percent lower in real terms and 2.2 percent higher in nominal terms than they were in the first half of 2025.
