Volkswagen is currently in a crucial phase regarding the potential return of Marianne Heiß to the supervisory board. According to reporting by the “Handelsblatt”, citing sources within the group, the manager from Austria is expected to take over the seat previously vacated by former Renk CEO Susanne Wiegand. Wiegand had superseded Heiß just last year, meaning Heiß would now follow her own successor. A spokesperson for the supervisory board told the paper that they do not comment on personnel speculation.
Formally, her return has not yet been decided. Heiß first needs to be formally appointed to the supervisory board by the Braunschweig District Court. As far as the “Handelsblatt” reports, this decision is still pending, and the court did not respond to a request for comment from the newspaper.
Heiß has been on the VW supervisory board since 2018 until July 2025 and currently serves on the control committees of both Audi and Porsche SE. With her returning, the VW supervisory board should be complete again for its meeting on September 4th. On that day, the board is scheduled to discuss the long-term future plan for group CEO Oliver Blume once more. The paper learned that three different concepts-from management, employee representatives, and the state of Lower Saxony-are currently on the table, and internal fronts are considered to be hardening.
