The DAX began the trading day positively on Thursday, with the leading index calculated at approximately 26,340 points around 10 a.m., marking a 0.2 percent increase over the previous day’s closing level. This favorable mood was bolstered by improved consumer sentiment, as reflected in the GfK Consumer Climate Index.
Positive international news also contributed to the market lift. Andreas Lipkow, Chief Market Analyst at CMC Markets, noted that “Nvidia’s better-than-expected quarterly results and extremely positive outlook not only sparked after-hours euphoria in the stock itself but also triggered a buying wave in Asian semiconductor stocks.” In addition, Salesforce and the cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike also delivered impressive results. Lipkow concluded that “the restrained investor mood of recent days could now release itself and bring new dynamism to the DAX.”
Regarding specific stocks, Siemens Energy, Infineon, and Rheinmetall were most sought after at the start of trading, while Deutsche Telekom, Qiagen, and Heidelberg Materials saw declines.
The European common currency showed little change on Thursday morning; one Euro was valued at $1.1652, and a dollar was available for 0.8552 Euros.
Meanwhile, oil prices dropped. A barrel of North Sea Brent crude cost $93.33 on Friday morning, around 9 a.m. German time. This represented a decrease of 45 cents, or 0.5 percent, compared to the previous day’s closing price.
