Thorsten Frei, the chief spokesperson for the CDU parliamentary group, is calling for the full implementation of the planned pension reform. He told the “Rheinische Post” (Monday edition) that the proposals put forth by the pension commission constitute a complete package. Frei stressed the importance of fairness and justice, stating that the goal is to distribute the consequences of demographic change across several generations rather than burdening only the younger ones. The CDU leader added that if this initiative can successfully pass through the parliamentary process, there is a chance for a truly significant, century-spanning reform. He asserted that society must be honest about the fact that social security systems should have been future-proofed years ago. “We have no time to lose,” Frei emphasized, insisting that the proposals must be implemented as quickly as possible.
