The United States conducted new strikes against targets in Iran on Tuesday, a development announced by President Donald Trump and the Pentagon. These operations were reportedly in response to recent attempts by the Revolutionary Guard to attack commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as attacks on U.S. troops in the region.
This action follows an exchange of attacks between the U.S. and Iran on Monday night, marking the first direct military engagement between the two nations in over a month. Earlier, Iran had launched rockets targeting U.S. military positions in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. This was presented as retaliation for a prior U.S. strike on suspected Iranian missile launchers located on the island of Larak. The U.S. previously accused Iran of attempting to introduce naval mines into the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
Trump emphasized that the American actions in Iran were “large and mighty.” He further warned that should Tehran choose to respond with retaliatory strikes, the U.S. military would respond with attacks that would “leave very little” of Iran behind.
