Terror Suspicions Swirl After Attack on Brandenburg Power Station

Following an attack on a substation belonging to a coal-fired power plant in southern Brandenburg, the police are also investigating the incident for suspected terrorism. Authorities announced on Wednesday that the investigation had been initiated due to suspicion of disrupting public services, causing a bomb explosion, destroying crucial equipment, and forming a terrorist organization. No further details were provided at that time.

Intervention measures continued throughout Wednesday midday, as emergency services were on site searching the area for additional evidence, which led to further closures.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, unidentified individuals had attempted to cause short circuits at the substation near the Jänschwalde coal-fired power plant, with some success. However, no large-scale disruptions occurred. Meanwhile, a similar incident was reported in North Rhine-Westphalia on Wednesday morning.
