AfD Candidate Siegmund Conditions Minister Presidency Ambition on Stable Majority

Ulrich Siegmund, the AfD’s leading candidate in Saxony-Anhalt, has indicated that he is keeping open the possibility of running for the ministerial presidency should his party secure an absolute majority. When asked if he intends to pursue the office if he achieves a simple majority in the State Parliament (Landtag), Siegmund told Bild that, “We will decide on Monday. We will see how it turns out.”

Siegmund emphasized that his focus is on securing a “stable majority” within the parliament. He highlighted the practical challenges, stating, “What do I do if one, two, or three deputies are in the hospital? Should I carry them into the Landtag for the vote?” He stressed that the state’s “progress must not be paralyzed” because of the absence of one or two deputies due to health reasons.
