According to Russian state media, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that President Vladimir Putin has ordered the military forces to temporarily halt attacks on Kyiv for three days, beginning at midnight on September 6th. This pause in hostilities is reportedly linked to preparations for the visit of U.S. Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to the Ukrainian capital. The announcement came just hours after Witkoff and Kushner landed in Moscow for talks with Putin, after which they are scheduled to travel to Kyiv on Sunday. The entire visit is part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s ongoing efforts to initiate a new push toward ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. However, the Kremlin also stated that Putin’s long-standing position-articulated two years ago in a speech-remains “unshakable”: Ukraine must cede the entire territory of four regions claimed by Russia and abandon its plans to join NATO. Since the last peace discussions in February, both sides have intensified their air attacks on each other’s territory, while the front lines on the ground have remained largely static.
