In the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, the AfD has emerged as the strongest political force by a significant margin, according to 6 p.m. estimates from ARD and ZDF. Based on averages, the party led by top candidate Ulrich Siegmund secured 44.3 percent of the vote, far ahead of the CDU, which received 18.5 percent.
The Linke follows in third place, averaging 9.3 percent. The SPD (8.5 percent) and the Greens (8.8 percent) will enter the state parliament, while the FDP failed to surpass the five-percent threshold with just 2.3 percent. The uncertain fate of the BSW remains, as it currently stands at 4.9 percent. The combined totals for all other parties averaged 3.6 percent.
These figures are derived from post-election surveys conducted on Sunday in polling stations by Infratest (ARD) and Forschungsgruppe Wahlen (ZDF).
