Following the election victory in Saxony-Anhalt, AfD top candidate Ulrich Siegmund believes his party has received a “very clear mandate.” During an election review held in Berlin on Monday with party chairs Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla, Siegmund affirmed that he intends to engage in talks with all parliamentary factions or individual deputies in the Magdeburg state parliament.
Siegmund declared that the mandate “could hardly be clearer,” adding that the result marked the best performance any party has achieved in Saxony-Anhalt since 1990.
Addressing potential areas for compromise, Siegmund stated that the AfD will “remain true to itself.” He stressed that the party’s immediate task is to secure a “stable majority.” Furthermore, Siegmund made it clear that he does not intend to lead a minority government, emphatically confirming that the AfD is also prepared for new elections if necessary.
