Henriette Held, the spokesperson for the Green Youth, is urging her party to shift its focus following the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, arguing that it must place greater emphasis on social justice and making living affordable. Speaking to Politico, Held stated, “We finally have to make life affordable, because right now only the AfD manages to address this issue.”
The co-spokesperson for the party’s youth wing acknowledged that the Greens still have “a long way to go” on this crucial topic. She pointed out that citizens concerned about their financial situation largely did not vote for the Greens. In fact, 65 percent of people who describe their financial state as poor voted for the AfD, according to Held.
Among other policy demands, Held called for the introduction of an asset tax, explicitly stating that she does not view this proposal as a form of ultra-left politics. She expressed her frustration, saying, “Honestly, I am tired of the demand for an asset tax and equality of wealth constantly being dismissed as far-left in recent years.” According to Held, there is concrete evidence that this dismissal contributes to driving people toward fascism.
