Westnetz, a subsidiary of Eon, has distributed emails to all RLM customers, which refers to gas customers who consume large volumes. In these messages, the corporation is requesting that these businesses update the contact details of a dedicated point of contact who could be reached during a potential gas shortage crisis during the winter. The email, cited by the “Handelsblatt”, states that supply bottlenecks could occur due to “weather-related, economic, political, and other unforeseen factors.”
A Westnetz spokesperson informed the newspaper that the company typically sends such communications annually up until 2024. However, in 2025, this request was halted because the “Gas Alert Level” enforced since the start of the war in Ukraine was lifted. The current outreach signals a renewed effort to gather this crucial contact information.
Given the historically low levels in gas storage facilities ahead of the winter season, concern is also growing within the business sector. A spokesperson for the chemical conglomerate Covestro told the “Handelsblatt” that, as an industrial entity, they see a certain risk regarding gas supply throughout the winter.
