Alexander Hoffmann, leader of the CSU state group, is opposed to the dismissal of SPD chief Bärbel Bas as Federal Minister for Labour. Hoffmann told the magazine Politico that “Bärbel Bas certainly views the issues from a different perspective and possibly through a different lens.” He added, “Our democracy is designed to function through coalitions-and we rightly chose the SPD. Everyone must focus on their own work, and I see that with Bärbel Bas.”
Hoffmann pointed out that the coalition has demonstrated success with the new basic security provisions. “That is how it must continue,” said the CSU politician. In his view, the most important lesson drawn from recent months is that the polling data has stabilized primarily because they have simply done their jobs and concentrated on the reforms. He noted that when they drew attention by engaging in self-employment or by being perceived as a disorganized “flock of chickens” arguing wildly, the electorate did not appreciate it.
The CSU politician also dismissed any scenarios involving a change in the Chancellor. “We must do what needs to be done now,” Hoffmann stated. “Naturally, a decision must be made before the next Bundestag election regarding who the right candidate is. However, people expect us to implement the changes that need to be made right now.”
