Greens leader Felix Banaszak stated that recent attempts at sabotage against the German power grid must be classified as terrorism. Speaking to the “Neuen Osnabrücker Zeitung”, Banaszak emphasized that anyone who attacks critical infrastructure to cause chaos, bring misfortune, or harm people is a terrorist. He asserted that the motivation behind such acts is irrelevant, adding that “nothing justifies such actions.”
This statement follows the recent apprehension of a 48-year-old man in Aachen, who is allegedly responsible for attacks on the national power grid. In a confession letter, the perpetrator cited the “fight against fossil fuels” as his motivation.
Banaszak also refuted the federal government’s description of the incident as “climate extremism.” He argued that the term falsely links the event to the Green Party. “I do not believe that anyone who wants to protect the climate intends to harm people,” Banaszak said firmly, concluding, “Anyone who claims that is lying.”
