Russian sources reported that at least two people were killed during a nighttime drone attack by Ukraine on the Moscow region. Authorities stated that this constituted the biggest drone attack on Moscow to date.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobjanin announced that an oil refinery was struck. Sobjanin suggested the attack was planned to disrupt the ongoing parliamentary elections, which are in their final day. Both nations continue to target the other’s energy infrastructure. This escalation persists despite a previous announcement from former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding a reached agreement to halt the strikes.
Earlier on Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the oil refinery attack, asserting that long-range Ukrainian strikes have had “significant effects” in the Moscow region. Zelenskyy confirmed that “important facilities” of Russia’s oil industry and logistics were hit. He reiterated his demand that Russia cease the war and take steps toward de-escalation.
