A fire on a Ryanair aircraft at Palma Airport in Mallorca triggered alarm among passengers during the early hours of Saturday. Local media reports indicate that a total of 18 individuals required assistance from emergency services, with six sustaining minor injuries and subsequently transported to two hospitals within the island’s capital.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight, when the aircraft’s captain, en route to Manchester, alerted authorities to a fire believed to have originated from one of the engines. Passengers were informed about the situation, causing considerable anxiety amongst those onboard.
Following the alert, emergency exits were opened allowing passengers to disembark. Some individuals, driven by fear, exited the aircraft and descended onto the airfield via the wings.
A rapid response ensued, with four ambulances, the Guardia Civil from Son Sant Joan and the airport’s fire department swiftly arriving at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Emergency responders were able to extinguish the blaze quickly.
