Berlin and its partners appear to be out of the running for the Olympic Games held in Germany. According to a report by the Tagesspiegel, Olympic Commissioner Kaweh Niroomand, the incumbent Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU), and Sports Senator Iris Spranger (SPD) reportedly met on Wednesday to discuss an immediate withdrawal of the Berlin bid. This decision may also be linked to the outcome of the Berlin election, which was won by the Left party. The party and its top candidate, Elif Eralp, had opposed hosting the games in the capital. Prior to this, Berlin had ranked last in the evaluation report issued by the German Olympic Sport Confederation (DOSB).
