Oil Prices Surge Amid Dow Decline as US Markets Correct Course

The US stock exchanges experienced a noticeable slump on Wednesday. As trading closed in New York, the Dow finished at 50,906 points, representing a decline of 0.9 percent compared to the previous day’s session. A short time before that, the broader S&P 500 was down 0.3 percent at 7,652 points, while the technology-focused Nasdaq 100 was calculated at 30,409 points, lagging by 0.2 percent.

In currency markets, the European common currency weakened modestly by Wednesday evening. The Euro traded at $1.1327 per US dollar, meaning the dollar was available for 0.8828 Euros.

Conversely, the gold price saw a dip, with a fine ounce selling for $4,155 in the evening, a drop of 0.6 percent. This equated to a price of 117.92 Euros per gram. However, oil prices surged significantly. A barrel of North Sea Brent crude cost $98.17 Wednesday evening around 10 PM Central European Time, which marked a 2.1 percent increase compared to the closing price of the preceding trading day.
