Wüst Slams Oil Majors Over Fuel Discount Profits Amid Price Hike Concerns

Henryk Wüst, the Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia (CDU), has sharply criticized the oil and fuel conglomerates during the ongoing debate about the gasoline discount. Speaking to Bild am Sonntag, Wüst stated that it would be a scandal if these conglomerates profit from the relief measures designed to help commuters and businesses. According to him, such behavior not only drains public finances but also undermines public confidence in Germany’s social market economy. He insists that the tax relief must be passed directly and equally from the oil companies and gas stations to the people.

The CDU politician also defended the decision to reintroduce the fuel discount. Wüst explained that since the conflicts in the Middle East, high fuel prices have placed an enormous burden on commuters, families, and companies across Germany. Therefore, he argued that it was crucial and right for both the federal government and the states to respond by implementing significant tax relief.
