Miersch Honors Bas’s Principled Dedication Following SPD Leadership Resignation

SPD Parliamentary Group leader Matthias Miersch reacted to the resignation of Bärbel Bas as her deep disappointment. On Monday, Miersch said, “I have great respect for her decision. She is making it for personal reasons, which I deeply respect.” As both the Minister and the Party Chair, she fought for the values of the SPD. He noted, “She stood up for her principles, even when it became uncomfortable. But now the time has come.” Miersch added that he wanted to thank Bärbel sincerely for everything she achieved, for her passion, her resolute stance, and her unwavering commitment to social justice. He concluded by assuring that she remains a colleague in the faction, and that their fight for social democracy continues.
