German Craft Industry Demands Immediate Labor Reforms from New Minister

Jörg Dittrich, president of the Central Association of German Craftsmen, insists that the new Federal Minister of Labor, Alexander Schweitzer (SPD), must implement the promised reforms promptly. While Dittrich told the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” that he would grant the Minister time to settle in, out of respect for his person and office, he stressed that the current economic climate does not allow for delays. According to Dittrich, there is “no grace period,” and Schweitzer needs to begin his work immediately by enacting the reforms agreed upon by the coalition.

Dittrich asserted that businesses and workers require stability and economic growth driven by private investment, rather than relying predominantly on debt, state investments, or bridging days. He anticipates that both the social reforms and the liberalization of working hours must be approved by the Bundestag before the end of this year.
