Bayer 04 Leverkusen secured a 2-0 victory against OFI Crete during the third matchday of the Europa League group stage. The match began with a dominant display from the Levante players, who immediately seized control of the game. Crete adopted a defensive posture, attempting to fend off the guests’ attacks. Jonas Hofmann first created a notable opportunity, but his shot was saved by Crete’s goalkeeper, Lilo.
The breakthrough came in the 35th minute, netting Leverkusen the well-deserved lead. After a shot by Moreira was blocked, Hofmann found himself in the ideal position and scored the 1-0 opener. Just three minutes later, Hofmann struck again, extending the lead to 2-0 by capitalizing on a precise pass from Tillman, putting the ball into the bottom left corner.
During the second half, Crete pushed hard to score an equalizer, but the Leverkusen defense held firm. The side managed their lead confidently until the end, earning a deserved away win.
Following this victory, Leverkusen stands at the top of the Europa League table, boasting a perfect record of nine points from three games without having conceded a single goal. In the Bundesliga, the team continues its campaign on Sunday afternoon against TSG Hoffenheim. Next in the Europa League, Leverkusen will host Olympique Marseille on November 5th.
